Welcome to Aberdeen Community Energy (ACE).
We are a multi-award winning Community Benefit Society, established, owned and run by the community.
Our vision is for a sustainable community that truly works for its residents, visitors and the area’s natural riverside setting.
Our Objectives are to
i) generate clean, renewable energy for homes and businesses,
ii) raise awareness and provide education on climate change, nature recovery, renewable energy, and sustainable communities,
iii) support the delivery of local and national policy on these matters, and
iv) generate a fund that supports local community initiatives which seek to make a difference.
Our purpose is to build, own and operate Aberdeen’s first community energy project, which is Scotland’s first urban community hydro. We bring you, the Donside Hydro.
The Donside Hydro harnesses energy from its neighbouring river – The Don – to create clean, renewable electricity which is fed into the national grid to help power our homes and businesses.
Income generated from the scheme is used to i) maintain the scheme, ii) pay back our community investors, and iii) support community initiatives which achieve social and environmental benefits for the local area. Plans for some of these initiatives are already in place, with the first priority being to improve the local riverside for people and wildlife.
The ACE team is entirely voluntary, works incredibly hard and successfully delivered the fully functioning Donside Hydro in September 2016.
